There is something sacred in the early newborn days, they are filled with sleepless nights, learning to breastfeed, healing, and gazing into that tiny, perfect human's eyes and bonding with them - It is tiring, it is incredible, and it is so rich with rewarding and beautiful moments. The newborn stage is one of my favorites, I never want to let go of my babies during that time - All I want to do is snuggle them close, feel the rise and fall of their breathing, kiss their precious cheeks, and feel them melt into sleep after nursing. These are moments that I never want to forget.
I hired a photographer to take newborn photos for my family when my second baby was born, they are so incredibly special to me - I have several of them framed in my hallway, they make me feel all warm and squishy inside to remember the wonder of my tiny little boy, it feels like I barely blinked and now he is crawling and playing peekaboo with me and his big brother.
I have been astounded as both of my boys grow to see how quickly they change, and how easy it is for me to forget those moments that felt like they would be ingrained forever in my mind. It makes me so sad to think of the moments I have forgotten.
The beauty of photographs is that when I see them, it instantly brings me back to what it felt like to kiss their cheeks, the warmth of their bodies scrunched up in sleep against me, and the wonder of gazing at their perfect little faces as they slept.
