Knoxville Lavender Field Photoshoot

Why Lavender Fields Make the Perfect Backdrop for Family Photos

If you’ve never experienced a lavender field in person, let me paint the picture for you:

  • Rows of soft purple stretching into the distance, moving gently in the breeze.
  • The warm golden glow of sunset filtering through, casting the dreamiest light.
  • The air filled with the soothing scent of lavender, instantly making everything feel a little more peaceful.
  • Space for little ones to explore, twirl, and run barefoot between the rows.

It’s a place that naturally encourages connection—where parents instinctively scoop their children into their arms, where kids feel free to be themselves, where the beauty of the moment unfolds effortlessly. It’s romantic, nostalgic, and full of warmth, which is exactly what I aim to capture in my sessions.

The Nostalgia of Lavender

Scents have a way of embedding memories so deeply, don’t they? Lavender is one of those for me.

As a little girl, I was drawn to the scent and the beauty of lavender. Over the years, my mom (and now my husband, too!) has thoughtfully remembered my love for it, gifting me little lavender-scented treasures—reminders that I am seen and loved.

What was once simply a peaceful scent has now become a symbol of being cared for, of being known.

I’ve always dreamed of photographing families in the soft glow of a lavender field, and I’m so excited to finally offer this experience!

Picture yourself in a beautiful flowy gown, your children laughing and playing nearby, the golden light of June enveloping you. You’re embracing your little ones, resting in your husband’s arms, with the scent of lavender and the soft summer breeze surrounding you.

The Best Time for a Lavender photo shoot in Knoxville, TN

Unlike some other locations, lavender fields have a short window of peak bloom, meaning these sessions are only available for a few weeks in June. The exact timing can vary depending on the weather, but generally, mid-to-late June is when the fields are at their fullest and most vibrant.

Because this is my first year offering lavender sessions, I expect them to book quickly! The limited availability makes them feel even more special—like a little slice of summer we get to step into for just a moment before it’s gone.

How to Make the Most of Your Session

Lavender fields are already magical on their own, but here are a few tips to make your session even more relaxed and enjoyable:

  • Plan for movement. I don’t expect little ones to sit still for posed photos! Running, twirling, and playing are all encouraged.
  • Embrace the moment. These sessions are meant to feel effortless and natural. Hold your babies, breathe in the lavender, and let the connection happen.
  • Come prepared. Lavender fields can attract bees (they love the blooms, but they’re generally uninterested in people!). If you have concerns, light-colored clothing and avoiding strong perfumes can help keep them away.

What to Wear for a Lavender Session

The soft, natural beauty of the lavender fields lends itself to timeless, elegant styling. Some of my favorite outfit ideas include:

For moms, I love flowy dresses in warm neutrals like cream, ivory, warm beige, or soft tan. These shades are natural and timeless, beautifully complementing the lavender. Soft pastels such as blush, dusty rose, or muted peach add a delicate, romantic feel without overpowering the scene, creating a gentle, ethereal look.

For dads, I suggest simple, neutral-colored button-ups or henleys paired with chinos or relaxed slacks. Linen and other soft textures photograph well and help keep the look light and comfortable.

For children, light and breathable fabrics in muted earth tones such as warm brown, caramel, rust, or terracotta are a perfect match. Smocked dresses, linen rompers, or classic overalls add a nostalgic touch while blending beautifully with the lavender. Bare feet will give your photos a carefree, relaxed vibe.

To add a bit of contrast and richness, deep jewel tones like maroon, deep plum, or muted mustard can be used in moderation. These tones add depth to the look while still feeling rich and artistic.

I also offer a client closet with hand-selected dresses that fit this aesthetic perfectly, helping you to feel both beautiful and at ease, making your lavender field session effortless and stress-free. These warm, natural tones and soft textures will create a cohesive, timeless look for your family’s photos.
