U-pick flower farms near Knoxville are one of those experiences that are simple, beautiful, and make amazing memories and photo ops with your kids, or even for a mom's night out with your friends. They are easy to plan, enjoyable for kids of different ages, and give you something tangible to take home. I love that you're able to bring flowers with you to brighten your home, as well as having the memories from the time spent there.

If you are looking for an outing that feels intentional without being complicated, this is one of my favorite options for families in East Tennessee! We are blessed with such a beautiful array of outdoor activity options and flower farms are hands down one of my favorite options.

Why U-Pick Flower Farms Are One of My Favorite Family Experiences Near Knoxville

Flower farms work well for families because they meet everyone where they are. Kids can move, explore, and choose. You as the parent can slow down without feeling like you need to manage every second.

You do not need a plan beyond showing up. There is no schedule to keep and no checklist to finish. Kids get to make small decisions, like which flowers to pick. You get space to be present instead of managing logistics, keeping toddlers from diving off the top of the slide, or from riding their bike into the road.

What to Expect When You Visit a Flower Farm Near Knoxville

If you have never been to a u-pick flower farm, it helps to know what a visit usually looks like ahead of time. Most farms are very straightforward and family friendly.

What a Typical Visit Looks Like From Arrival to Checkout

Most farms follow a similar process:

  • You arrive and check in at a stand or barn
  • Staff explain where to pick and how pricing works
  • You head into the field to cut or gather flowers
  • Flowers are counted, wrapped, or bundled at checkout

You are usually encouraged to take your time.

How Long to Plan for With Young Children

For families with young kids, an hour to an hour and a half is usually perfect. That gives kids time to explore without pushing them past their limit. Some farms offer extra activities, which can extend your visit if your kids have the energy. Oakes Farm in Corryton is one of those - There is an area to buy food, slides, a giant sandbox, a bubble station, and more! My kids could spend hours here!

What’s Usually Included in Your Admission or Bouquet Price

Depending on the farm, pricing may include:

  • Entry to the field
  • A set number of stems or a bouquet
  • Use of clippers or containers

Details vary by season, so checking the farm’s website or social media before you go is always a good idea.

The Best U-Pick Flower Farms Near Knoxville for Families

These local farms are solid options for families. Each one offers something slightly different, so the best choice depends on what kind of day you want.

Oakes Farm (Corryton)

Oakes Farm has the earliest blooms that I know of, kicking off spring with their INSANE tulip field! It is SO gorgeous. They have a fall season too for other flowers, pumpkins, a corn maze, etc., but honestly, the tulips are my favorite. It is a good choice for families who want flowers plus additional activities. There is plenty of space, wide paths, and options to keep kids engaged beyond picking flowers.

This is a great option if you're new to flower farms, it is well set up to accommodate large crowds, and little kids. I even brought my stroller here!

Rustic Gate Farm (Friendsville)

Rustic Gate Farm is quieter and more low key. It works well for families who want a slower pace and fewer distractions. Kids can explore without feeling rushed, and the experience feels simple and manageable. Make sure you reach out to the owner ahead of time or check her Facebook page for updates, as she has limited hours that she is open. The sunset light is really beautiful there (the photos at the beginning of this post were taken there.)

Rocky Park Farm (Friendsville)

Rocky Park Farm has an open, rural layout that works well for kids who like room to move. It is a good option if you prefer a relaxed visit and do not need a lot of extra activities.

Riverside Farm (Kodak)

Riverside Farm is a smaller local farm with seasonal availability. Offerings can change year to year, so it is best to check ahead. When open, it is a convenient option for families looking for something nearby. The flower field is lovely, the owner is very kind, and there is a charming view of the French Broad River with a small section of the flower field in that direction as well.

Harvest Creek Flower Farm (Lenoir City)

Harvest Creek Flower Farm is a smaller operation with a local feel. It is a good choice if you value supporting small farms and want an experience that feels personal and unrushed. They are adding a Coffee Cafe in spring of 2026, which is super exciting! Make sure to check them out and support them. They also have a darling cottage on the premises that you can rent if you're looking for a peaceful getaway.

Southern Bella Blooms (Greenback)

Southern Bella Blooms grows specialty flowers around Knoxville and offers seasonal events and u-pick flower opportunities. They host floral experiences and workshops, and often have peonies and other blooms in spring and early summer. It is worth checking their site or social channels for current flower-picking dates and events ahead of your visit. This one has the BEST sunset views, in my opinion, and is definitely the one I check for availability first when booking photography sessions at flower fields for family/maternity/motherhood sessions.

What to Bring to a U-Pick Flower Farm When You Have Kids

Being prepared makes the experience smoother for everyone.

What I Always Pack (and What I’ve Learned the Hard Way)

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Wipes
  • Change of clothes and extra diapers
  • A small bag/basket or container for kids who want to carry their own flowers (most farms will provide you with a container, but having an extra kid-friendly option just in case never hurts)

What to Wear — for Kids, Parents, and Photos

  • Comfortable shoes that can get dirty (Crocs are a go-to for my kids!)
  • Clothes that can handle dirt
  • Neutral or soft colors if photos matter to you  *If you're working with me, we'll coordinate your outfits very specifically depending on the type of flowers, and vibe you're going for*

Optional Extras That Make the Day Smoother

  • A wagon for tired kids
  • Sunscreen and hats
  • A blanket for breaks or snacks

Flower Field Family Photos

Flowers have been a favorite of mine since early childhood. They are so dreamy and nostalgic. I love being able to offer flower fields to families as a location for family, maternity, or motherhood photos. My client closet is full of gorgeous options that complement these settings well. I have a number of these flower farms that I work with to be able to bring my clients for private or semi private sessions.

If you're wanting to book with me and have specific flowers you're interested in, let me know at booking and I we can choose the perfect spot. (I have a lavender field too that is not open to the public!)
